EPL: Leeds, Brighton win as Manchester City claim top spot after defeating Fulham 2-1

Manchester City climbed to the summit of the Premier League table after a slim 2-1 win over visiting Fulham at the Etihad Stadium.

Alvarez fires into roof of the net in the 17th minute of the encounter  but Fulham’s Pereira levels from spot after the  city defender Cancelo saw  red for a bad tackle.

The full-back was penalised for barging Harry Wilson off the ball inside the City box 25 minutes into the match. Cancelo was shown a straight red card and was given a lecture by Pep Guardiola before walking down the tunnel, while Andreas Pereira converted the penalty to make it 1-1.

The Portugal international made no attempt to play the ball and simply rammed into the Fulham player to knock him off the ball.

Substitute  Erling Haaland who initially had a goal chalked off eventually  netted from the spot in stoppage time to secure three maximum points to City.

Meanwhile, Leeds United recorded their second straight win against Bournemouth 4-3 after defeating Liverpool at Anfield 2-1 last weekend.

Leeds came from the heels of eight games without winning to securing a back to back victory against Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Also Brighton defeated Wolves at  Molineux 2-3  to continue their fantastic run in the Premier League.

Nottingham forest who got  bashed 5-0 by Arsenal last weekend  on match day 14 settled for a 2-2 draw against visiting Brentford in another thrilling encounter.
