Photos: Labour Leaders storm FIRS office with canes, whip erring workers

Labour leaders on Monday stormed the Lagos office of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to pursue erring civil servants out of their offices.

The NewsGuru.com (TNG) had earlier reported that organised labour, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), begun an indefinite strike to press home the demand for the new national minimum wage and the recent increases in electricity tariffs.

In the photos that surfaced on social media, the members of the organised labour took the workers, who had defied the directive of the labour leaders, by surprise when they swooped on them around 10 am this morning.

Meanwhile, the  Transmission Company of Nigeria on Monday confirmed to the general public that the Labour Union shut down the national grid, resulting in black out nationwide.

The TCN made this known in a statement through its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, noted the national grid shut down occurred at about 2.19am this morning, 3rd June 2024.

According to Mbah, the Benin Transmission Operator under the Independent System Operations unit of TCN reported that all operators were driven away from the control room.

Mbah stated that staff members who tried to resist, were beaten while some were wounded in the course of forcing them out of the control room.

According to Mbah, other transmission substations that were shut down, by the Labour Union include the Ganmo, Benin, Ayede, Olorunsogo, Akangba and Osogbo Transmission Substations, adding that some transmission lines were equally opened due to the ongoing activities of the labour union.
