Nollywood actress cum film maker, Mary Njoku, has queried the benefits behind becoming a member of Nollywood guilds and associations.
The 39-year-old movie producer, in a recent Instagram post, said her inquiry comes after she struggled to provide a clear answer, after a budding filmmaker asked her about the advantages of joining these guilds.
The actress further asked her followers to help out, by outlining the benefits of joining Nollywood guilds and associations, with supporting evidence.
“A budding filmmaker asked me ‘what are the benefits of being part of Nollywood guilds and associations?’ and I’m struggling to give a clear answer. Can someone help outline the benefits with supporting evidence?,” she wrote.
According to the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), there are 22 approved guilds and associations in Nollywood, including the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and the Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).
Njoku rose to fame after starring in the popular Nollywood blockbuster “Blackberry Babes” in 2011.
Married to Jason Njoku, the CEO of Iroko TV, Njoku is the founder of ROK Studio, a movie production company established in 2013. In 2019, she played a key role in the acquisition of ROK by CANAL+, marking the largest international deal to date for a Nollywood brand.
The company has produced several movies and series, including “Festac Town,” “Single Ladies,” “Body Language,” “Losing Control,” and “Husbands of Lagos.”
