The Presidency has strongly disavowed the emergence of unauthorized billboards in various cities promoting a 2027 presidential campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The billboards, which prominently feature images of President Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, have been particularly noted in Abuja and Kano. According to a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, these displays are both unauthorized and in violation of electoral laws.
“The Presidency has noticed, with concern, the increasing number of billboards promoting a 2027 campaign for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, especially in Abuja and Kano,” Onanuga said.
He emphasized that neither the President nor the Vice President has endorsed or authorized any form of campaign activity, as doing so would constitute a breach of the Electoral Act, which prohibits early electioneering.
“While President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima appreciate the strong support from Nigerians, they cannot support any action that flouts the law,” he stated. “Premature campaigning compromises the integrity of our elections and provides unfair advantage.”
The statement made it clear that no individual or group has been given permission to launch any campaign, whether through billboards, digital platforms, print media, radio, or television. Onanuga urged those responsible for these campaigns to halt their activities immediately.
“We call on those funding and promoting these unlawful campaigns to desist without delay,” he said. “These actions are not only illegal but risk damaging the credibility of our democratic institutions.”
Onanuga also reaffirmed that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remain fully committed to their current mandate—focusing on economic reforms, infrastructure development, education, social investment, and national security.
“As law-abiding leaders, they are concentrating on delivering their responsibilities to Nigerians,” he added. “Any announcements regarding the 2027 elections will be made only when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially begins the election timetable.”
He concluded by assuring that when the time is right, President Tinubu will formally communicate his intentions to the public.
