Award-winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie revealed that she kept the birth of her twins, who were born through surrogacy, a secret to prevent their lives from being politicized.
Adichie made the revelation during a recent episode of With Chude Live, a talk show hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo.
“My boys are so precious to me. And I hated that anything about them would become politicised. On the one hand, I thought, ‘I wish I hadn’t talked about it,’ but on the other hand, there is no way I’m going to lie,” she said.
The brillant author expressed hope that speaking publicly about her experience would encourage other women to feel less ashamed about choosing non-traditional paths to motherhood.
“Our society is so judgmental, and I don’t think that’s good for anyone,” she said. “But my daughter and my babies are the greatest gift I’ve been given — so, zero regrets.”
