2027: ADC to host coalition talks in Kano as opposition political realignment gathers momentum

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is set to host a high-level political meeting in Kano on Tuesday as part of intensified efforts by opposition parties to form a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, scheduled to hold at Mumbayyu House at 10:00 a.m., is being convened by the Kano State Chairman of the ADC, Alhaji Musa Shaibu Ungogo, and will bring together prominent defectors from multiple political blocs.

Sources within the party confirmed that the gathering will mark the formal launch of the ADC as a coalition platform, incorporating defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and a faction of the Labour Party (LP).

The development follows a national directive issued to all ADC state chapters to facilitate the integration of coalition partners in preparation for the 2027 elections. Party insiders say the Kano meeting is expected to serve as a model for similar convergence efforts across the country.

“The key objective is to proclaim the formal merger of the coalition groups into the ADC and begin building a revitalized political force both in Kano State and nationally,” a party source told this reporter.

The move reflects growing disillusionment among Nigerians with the country’s two dominant political parties — the APC and PDP — amid worsening economic conditions, rising insecurity, and widespread governance concerns.

Observers say the emergence of a restructured ADC could significantly alter the dynamics of the 2027 polls, especially as more citizens seek viable alternatives to the traditional power blocs.

Further announcements and structural decisions are expected to emerge following the conclusion of Tuesday’s meeting.
