World Cup Qualifiers: Nigeria draw South Africa, Benin, Rwanda three others

Nigeria have been drawn in the same group with South Africa, Benin Republic, Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Lesotho in the Preliminary Round of Africa’s World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

Senegal will compete in group alongside  Congo, Togo, Sudan, South Sudan and Mauritania in Group B.

The Black stars of Ghana  will slug it out with Madagascar, Central African Republic, Comoros, Chad in Group I if they hope to make it to the tournament for the fifth time.

Having missed the last two editions, two-time African kings Algeria would be aiming to return to World Cup. Nevertheless, they must scale a huge hurdle in Guinea, Somalia, Botswana, Mozambique, Uganda in Group G.

Highly ranked Atlas Lion of Morocco will trade tackles with Zambia, Congo, Tanzania, Niger Republic and Eritrea in Group E.

The group winners will gain automatic pass to the World Cup group stage while the best four second placed teams will go through another round of matches to stand a chance to book a place at the Mundial.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series for Africa start in November 2023.

The Mundial is billed to hold in three North American countries and they are Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Africa will have a shot at the presenting 10 teams for the first time in a new 48-team format.
