Super Eagles forward reveals intention to play in EPL

Super Eagles and Genk of Belgium striker, Tolu Arokodare has revealed his intention to play in the English Premier League (EPL).

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Arokodare disclosed in an interview on Friday that it has always been his dream to play in the EPL.

Arokodare, who spoke with NAN in London, said he was exploring other options which included playing for other bigger clubs especially in the EPL.

He said that his desire to play for other bigger leagues does not mean that the Belgian league was not good enough.

“I am trying to go higher and I think that it is what the club and the coaches will want for me. In life, you just want to take that step forward and it is my time to take that step.

“I will go to any club I think is best for me but it is always a dream to play in the English Premier League,” Arokodare said.

The 24-year-old striker, who scored 21 times and assisted five times in 40 appearances in the just concluded 2024/2025 season, said it was a dream come through to have been invited to the Super Eagles.

“There are lots of football players in Nigeria now that would love to have this opportunity that I have. I feel very honoured to put on this jersey and represent the country in doing what I love to do.

“Every time I get out there, whether I am playing or not, I will always support the team,” Arokodare said.

The gangling striker might be favoured ahead of Cyril Dessers who opted out from Thursday’s training in the final of the 2025 Unity Cup against Jamaica on Saturday.

Confusion as Ahmed Musa leaves Super Eagles camp; Ndidi, Ajayi opt out of training

There was confusion in the Super Eagles camp in London on Thursday after the team’s captain, Ahmed Musa left camp abruptly to return to Nigeria, citing personal reasons.

Musa was missing at the training ground on Thursday, as few other players also opted out of the training ahead of the final of the 2025 Unity Cup in London.

Recall that the Super Eagles overpowered the Black Stars of Ghana 2-1 at the GTech Community Stadium in London in one of the tournament’s encounters on Wednesday.

Wilfred Ndidi, Cyril Dessers, Semilore Ajayi all sat out the training, while those who were heavily involved in the Black Stars’ triumph, went through simple recovery programmes at the training.

Benjamin Fredrick, former Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS), Ilorin FC and Nigeria U20 International defender, who was not initially invited was spotted at the training ground.

Frederick, who plies his trade with English Premier League side Brentford, was involved in the training and other programmes of the Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, who concentrated majorly on the tactical approach of the game.

The Super Eagles will on Saturday lock horns with Jamaica in the final of the 2025 Unity Cup. The Jamaicans defeated their Trinidad and Tobago counterparts 3-2 to book a place in Saturday’s final.

We have no reason not to support Tinubu in 2027 – Kebbi Gov

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi has assured President Bola Tinubu of an unshakable support from the people of Kebbi in 2027.

He made this known at a ceremony organised to celebrate two years anniversary of his government held at the Haliru Abdu Stadium, Birnin Kebbi.

The governor said that before the Tinubu-led administration, Kebbi enjoyed little or no federal government projects.

“With the emergence of Tinubu administration, Kebbi enjoys series of developmental projects.”

These projects, according to him, are; roads, schools, empowerment, appointments, among others.

He listed some of the road projects to include; Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, Dabai-Mahuta-Koko road, Malando-Warah-Ngaski road, Kamba-Feka road and Zema-Zuru road among others.

“Therefore, we, the people of Kebbi have no reason not to support the second term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2027,” he noted.

Idris thanked the organisers for bringing Kebbi prominent personalities together including all the ex-state governors.

“You hardly can see a state in this country, where four former and serving governors come under one roof. This glaringly shows that Kebbi is an APC state,” he said.

The governor promised that the votes Mr President got in the 2023 general elections would be tripled come 2027.

He appreciated the people of Kebbi for their support and cooperation which had paved the way for him to record a huge success, assuring that they have done everything to him, “your support will never go in vein.”

Speaking on behalf of the two Ministers from Kebbi, the Minister, Budget and Economic Planning and former governor of the state, Sen. Atiku Bagudu said they were proud to be associated with Gov. Idris and President Tinubu’s achievements.

He said following the tireless efforts of the governor, Kebbi through the support of Mr President had secured more federal projects, promising that as members of the federal executive council, they would continue to pursue more.

Bagudu applauded the governor for bringing development to Kebbi, while urging people to support both President Tinubu and Gov. Idris second term bid.

On his part, Senator representing Kebbi Central and former governor of the state, Sen. Adamu Aliero advised the governor to intensify efforts to bring unity amongst all the critical stakeholders in the state.

He promised to work hand-in-hand with his colleagues at the senate to facilitate more developmental projects to Kebbi.

Speaker, Kebbi House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Usman-Zuru observed that the governor had fulfilled about 90 per cent of his campaign promises in less than two years.

He lauded the governor for executing projects that have direct bearing to the lives of generality.

  • Two years in office: I am now caged; leadership is difficult – Gov Radda

Two years in office: I am now caged; leadership is difficult – Gov Radda

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has said leadership is difficult, urging that leaders must endure criticisms and other abuses by some members of the public.

The Governor stated this in Katsina on Thursday during a special prayer session organised by the state government to mark the two years of his administration.

In his speech, Radda highlighted the challenges of the job but assured to remain focused and honest in the discharge of his service.

According to him, the people commending the effort and commitment of his administration are more than those criticising his government.

He added that as a human being, a leader must make mistakes, but the most important was that the good deeds should exceed the wrongdoing.

According to Radda, the money managed by the government belongs to the people and that government officials are merely caretakers.

“I am now caged, sometimes I find it difficult to go about my normal life, because I will be blocked. When I go out from house in the morning, mostly I will not go back until bed time.

“Therefore, I always tell people that the job is difficult, it needs dedication and commitment.

Although, anywhere we visit, the people give us warm welcome, we are really happy with that and this is what gives us more courage to do the right thing.

“In such a situation, where people are hailing and saying good things about you, if you betray them, definitely God will deal with you,” the governor said.

According to him, his door is always open for advice and suggestions, admonishing, “due to their closeness with the people, the religious leaders should always inform him what they are hearing from the public.”

He called on them to support the fight against insecurity at the community levels, especially by fishing out the informants and drug dealers in their communities.

Radda said that the event, attended by top government officials, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders, was a moment of reflection and gratitude.

He emphasised that the occasion was not a celebration of power, but rather an opportunity to thank Allah and acknowledge that leadership is a trust, not a trophy.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba-Faskari, stated that about 75 per cent of the administration’s goals had already been achieved.

He attributed the myriad of successes recorded within the two years to the government’s purposeful and disciplined approach.

Also, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman-Nasir, the Chief of Staff to the governor, revealed that over 140 experts had contributed to shaping the governor’s development plan.

He stated that the next phase of the administration would focus more on empowering people, rather than capital projects.

Nigeria’s democracy work in progress – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State chapter has described Nigeria’s democracy as a work in progress.

Apostle Joshua Akinyemiju, the chapter’s Chairman said this in an interview in Ibadan, on Thursday.

Akinyemiju noted that President Bola Tinubu’s two years in office had been a challenging period for all Nigerians.

According to him, we know how we started but it can be said that we are improving as a Nation.

”Though there are challenges like insecurity, inflation and other socio-economic issues that result from subsidy removal and devaluation of the Naira, there is optimism that improvements are catching up.

“As much as we can say that religious balance is seen in almost every sector, there are areas where Christians seem to be at the receiving end.

“This is especially in cases where it is expected that government should act appropriately but failed to do so.

”Example is the closure of schools in some states during Ramadan period, the compulsory introduction of Islamic Religious Studies even in Christian schools, sentencing a Christian to death for defending himself against a Fulani herdsman and so on,” he told NAN.

The can boss appealed to the Federal Government to pay more attention to the issues of insecurity and other challenges that were tormenting the citizenry.

He also urged the government to ensure justice, fairness and equity in all areas to promote peaceful co-existence.

“Gov. Seyi Makinde has been a wonderful leader, but he needs to understand the sensitive nature of religion in the state more and know that balancing is very important.

“On the socio-economic aspect, government needs to borrow a leaf from South Africa and  other African Nations who have learnt how to translate their population to economy strength,” Akinyemiju said.

Similarly, Pastor Francis Oghuma, Senior Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Ibadan, likened Nigeria’s democracy to a constantly growing fetus heading strongly toward manifestation in the womb with patience.

Oghuma said that situation called for constant watching and praying by Nigerians and especially Christians.

“This is where we need more of our unity in diversity by dishing out the best of our talents, developmental values, putting on the breast plate of integrity and reliability in the labouring room of a growing democratic fetus and aggressively ready to kill the corruption-pest.

“President Bola Tinubu’s administration is barely two years to rule the sharpness of its shaft.

“However, it started with a determined change which came with excruciating pain, just like any serious early farmer who tilled in the very hardness of the season and patiently enduring the dust of the earth in preparations for rain.

“Therefore as Christians we must give our best and intercede to sustain the rain for harvest,” he said.

On performance of the present administration in the state, the cleric said that Gov. Seyi Makinde’s government was a litmus test of expected joy and delivering of the dividends of democracy.

He described the administration as compelling governance geared toward a people adding that residents had felt nothing but robust economy, and infrastructural development cutting across the entire state.

Falana vs VeryDarkMan: VDM sighted in Abuja as his absence stalls court case in Lagos

The absence of Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and his legal representatives, stalled an Ikeja High Court proceeding on Wednesday.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the court was forced to adjourn until April 15 the alleged defamation suit filed against the social media celebrity.

However, VeryDarkMan was sighted around Wuye bridge in the federal capital territory (FCT) frolicking around with some of his fans.

Recall a human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, Folarin, popularly known as Falz, had filed the defamatory suit against VDM.

Falana filed the suit following an audio recording made by a cross-dresser, Bobrisky, accusing Falana and son of perversion of justice.

Justice Matthias Dawodu adjourned the case due to the absence of VDM and his legal representatives.

His lead counsel, Mr Marvin Omorogbe, had in a letter dated February 18, urged the court to adjourn the case to any date in March or April.

The letter stated that Omorogbe was unavailable due to a domestic emergency.

Counsel to the Falanas, Mr Omotayo Olatunbosun, told the court that the letter was a “time wasting tactic” on the part of the respondents.

At the court’s prompting, counsel moved his counter affidavit, challenging the preliminary objection filed by VeryDarkMan to the defamation suit.

Following the development, the court adjourned the case until April 15 for hearing of the preliminary objection.

Wife of journalist killed by police asks for justice

Mrs Francisca Ogbu, wife of Alexander, a journalist killed by the police personnel during a protest has called for support to enforce court judgment against the Nigeria Police.

Ogbu made the call during a media briefing on Tuesday in Abuja. She said the husband was brutally shot and killed by men of the Nigeria Police on Jan. 21, 2020 in Abuja during a protest by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

She said the family had been fighting for justice since the murder of the husband and had taken several steps, including legal action.

“After three years of legal battle, Justice Mohammed Abubakar of the Federal Capital Territory High Court ordered the Nigeria Police Force to pay a compensation of N50 million to the family of Ogbu.

“Till date, the Nigeria Police Force has failed to comply with the June 23, 2023 judgment of the court and has not filed an appeal.

“Several efforts made to ensure compliance by the Nigeria Police yielded no positive result as police authorities have remained adamant and deliberately, frustrating all attempt to comply with the judgment,” she said.

She said the Nigeria Police had remained adamant in spite of several letters written to the Police Service Commission, Ministry of Police Affairs, National Assembly, the Inspector General of Police and other stakeholders.

“We want to use this opportunity to appeal to well-meaning Nigerians and other stakeholders to join us to compel the Nigeria Police Force to comply with the judgment,” she added.

She said the last four years since the brutal murder of her husband had been traumatising for the family.

The US president-elect will be sworn in to his second term in the White House on Monday, eight years after he first took the oath of office.

Starmer paid tribute to the “depth of friendship” between the 47th president and the UK, and pledged to continue to “work together to ensure the success of both our countries and deliver for people on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Trump spent the eve of the inauguration at a rally, where he declared his supporters had “built a new American majority that will lead our country to success for generations to come.”

UK politicians including Nigel Farage are in the American capital ahead of the ceremonies, but questions remain over what impact the second Trump presidency will have on economies across the world if he follows through on threats to implement tariffs.

In a statement on Sunday evening, Starmer sent his congratulations to Trump.

“For centuries, the relationship between our two nations has been one of collaboration, cooperation and enduring partnership.

“It is a uniquely close bond,” the prime minister said.

“Together, we have defended the world from tyranny and worked towards our mutual security and prosperity.”

Starmer and the president-elect met in New York in September at Trump Tower, ahead of the U.S. election, and at the time the UK leader said he is a “great believer in personal relations on the international stage.”

Starmer added on Sunday: “Since our first meeting in September, the President and I have spoken about the need to deepen and invest in the transatlantic relationship.

“We will continue to build upon the unshakeable foundations of our historic alliance as we tackle together the global challenges we face and take our partnership to the next level focused on shared opportunities ahead for growth.

“I look forward to our next meeting as we continue our shared mission to ensure the peace, prosperity and security of our two great nations.

“The special relationship between the United Kingdom and United States will continue to flourish for years to come.”
