ASUU strike: Why TETFUND is being mismanaged – Peter Obi

Ahead of the 2023 general election, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has aired his opinion on why the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) is being mismanaged.

Obi attributed the incessant lack of funds available to address the problem of funding to universities to a situation he tagged “State Capture”.

The Labour Party presidential candidate disclosed this in a statement released on his Twitter handle as part of his administration’s plan to bring permanent solutions to the intractable ASUU strikes if elected.

The statement reads “within available national resources and (TETFUND), there should be funds to reasonably tackle the problems of our tertiary institutions and prevent ASUU strikes. Unfortunately, due to State Capture, TETFUND has been grossly mismanaged.”

The statement went further to read that “we intend to change extant and enabling policies to make access to such funds seamless, transparent, and dedicated for prescribed purposes”.

Mr. Obi who has over one million, nine hundred followers on Twitter is said to command the highest number of followership especially among the Nigerian youths.

The youths who are the most affected in the ongoing ASUU strike readily responded in the twit by calling on the Federal Government to urgently address the lingering ASUU strike.
