7 things you should know about late ‘Eko O Gba Gbere’ singer, Chris Ajilo

Chris Ajilo, a popular veteran Nigerian highlife musician, has passed away at the age of 91.

He breathed his last on Saturday after being rushed to Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesha, Osun state.

1.Ajilo is known for tracks like ‘Eko O Gba Gbere’, ‘Ariwo’, ‘Orilonise’, ‘Only You, ‘Tetede’, ‘Ojo Nlo’, and ‘Emi Mimo’.

2.Ajilo also produced for Polygraph (turned Polygram Records) and worked on several albums, notably Olisa Osadebe’s ‘Osondu Owendi’.

3.The singer, whose full name is Christopher Ajilore, hails from Ijebu-Ijesa in Osun state.

4. He was born on December 26, 1929, at Okepopo on Lagos Island.

5 He attended CMS Grammar School, Lagos, and for three years, music was compulsory. They were only allowed to drop music as subject in Form 4.

6. His mother didn’t support his decision to study music . He lost his father when he was young.

7.He released his last album when he was 83.
