Top-notch Nollywood filmmaker and seasoned lecturer, Don Pedro Obaseki has called for the ban of Olamide’s first tune of 2018 titled ‘Science Student’.
In the song, Olamide fails to condemn drug abuse which is the central message of the song. The self-proclaimed Baddo known for his unintelligible vulgar lyrics fails to highlight the hazards of drug abuse among young Nigerians.Rather than condemn drug culture among youths, Olamide eulogizes drug abuse in the 3.24 minutes song.
Reacting to the trending song, Obaseki called on government authorities to ban the song. He added that Olamide needs to be made an ambassador of good behavior for Nigerian youths.
According to him: “Olamide’s Science Student is encouraging our children to mix all forms of drugs, he is speaking in Yoruba so you may not get the import of what he is saying . He is encouraging our children to take drugs, tramadol, monkey tail. He is eulogizing all forms of illicit drugs and making it trendy. Our nation is a nation on its knees
“This song must be banned. The authorities, NBC and NDLEA need to save the minds of Nigerian kids. We should get hold of Olamide and make him the ambassador of good behavior for Nigerian children”.
Ever since Olamide shot to limelight, some of his songs have promoted vulgar lyrics capable of destroying the foundation of our socio-cultural values. From Story for the gods, to Eniduro and Wo, these groovy songs glorifies rascality and hooliganism in one way or the other.
In the same vein, Nollywood actress, Kemi Akindoju in her recent Instagram update lamented over the glorification of drugs in Nigerian music.
According to her: “This encouragement and promotion to use hard drugs and get ‘high’ under the influence of drug and dance is disturbing. What is more disturbing is how comfortable all of us are with it”.
