Nigerian music enthusiasts will be quick to tell you that there is a dearth of real hip hop in the Nigerian music industry. Revered Nigerian rapper, MI Abaga has urged his fellow rappers to ‘ Fix up their lives’. He made this statement in a controversial new single titled Fix up your lives.
In the trap inspired song, Abaga said rappers are “underperforming,” expressing repugnance at his peers and reminding them of how he “held the country down” when he was actively involved in the music industry.
The Chocolate City president also noted in the song that South African rappers are taking over African hip hop.
He raps: “I should be close to retirement/ but none of you rappers inspiring/ none of you pass the requirements/ I can’t retire yet then.
“You rappers should fix up your life/ yall getting killed by the south/ I guess I’m in this s**t for life/ I’m still the one that you look to/ you need me to figure s**t out.
“None of you rappers is real enough/ once you blow up now you’re switching up/ that’s why these fans are not feeling yall/ SA rappers are killing yall.”
M.I had made similar statement in the controversial Loose Talk podcast.
