British singer known globally as a former member of the boyband One Direction, Liam Payne, has passed away at the age of 31.
TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that the singer was found dead after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
According to Buenos Aires Police, the tragic incident took place on Wednesday at a hotel located on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo neighborhood.
The singer was pronounced dead at the scene after an accidental fall from the third floor of a hotel in the city.
Confiming the incident, the communications director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, Pablo Policicchio, said that Payne had jumped from the balcony of his hotel room.
Police were called to the hotel in response to an emergency call just after 5 p.m. local time. The hotel manager reported that Payne was behaving erratically and potentially under the influence of substances.
Payne joined One Direction in 2010 at the age of 16.
The group became the biggest boyband in the world after their 2010 launch on ‘The X Factor’. The band broke up in 2015.
In June 2021, the singer disclosed his struggles with alcohol and prescription drug addiction during One Direction’s tours.
He also revealed that he had experienced severe suicidal thoughts at one point.
Recent reports had surfaced about Maya Henry, Payne’s ex-fiancée, alleging that he pressured her to get an abortion and had broken off their engagement.
