Nigerian musician, Oluwatosin Ajibade, aka Mr Eazi, has emerged as the official headline sponsor of Ghana Premier League, after splashing a whopping $6 million.
The contract is between the singer’s online gaming franchise, betPawa and Ghana Football Association (GFA).
It was gathered that the deal would run for three years via betPawa.
Mr Eazi confirmed this deal on his official Twitter page, where he informed his over 2.9 million followers on the platform.
“Excited that my company is the new sponsor for the Ghana Premier League. #ProudCeo,” he shared.
Confirming this development, some Ghana Football Association (GFA) acknowledged Mr Eazi’s betPawa’s sponsorship at an official signing ceremony in Accra ahead of the 2022/23 league slated for September 2.
The partnership between GFA and betPawa will focus on “properly marketing and positioning the elite league to become one of the most successful and attractive on the continent,” GFA confirmed.
“The company’s high appetite for growing and harnessing talents, creating opportunities, and rewarding fans across its markets are a few of the many reasons for partnering with the GFA,” Mr Eazi disclosed.
In June, betPawa sealed a deal with MTN Rwanda’s Fintech subsidiary Mobile Money Rwanda to offer customers a range of payment methods.
Mr Eazi’s rich investment portfolios also include the emPawa Africa incubator programme and venture firm Zagadat Capital.
$6 million is equivalent to 2,493,060,000 Naira as of Saturday morning, August 6, 2022.
Mr Eazi, is a Nigerian-born, Ghana-based singer.
He is a pioneer of Banku music, a fusion of sound he describes as a mixture of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian chord progressions and patterns.
Mr Eazi relocated to Kumasi, Ghana in 2008 and enrolled at KNUST, where he began booking artists to perform at college parties. He showed interest in music after recording a guest verse on “My Life”, a song that gained traction and became a popular record at KNUST.
Mr Eazi released his debut mixtape About to Blow in 2013.
He gained an international audience following the release of the Efya-assisted single “Skin Tight”. His second mixtape Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra To Lagos was released in 2017.
