Sean “Diddy” Combs, the renowned hip-hop mogul, has been convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, but acquitted of more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
The jury delivered the verdict after six weeks of testimony and two days of deliberation.
Combs faces up to 20 years in prison for the two prostitution-related charges, with each count carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian will determine his sentence at a later date. Prosecutors plan to pursue significant incarceration for Combs.
The trial featured testimony from 34 witnesses, including Combs’ former girlfriend Cassie Ventura, who described alleged physical and sexual abuse. Other witnesses included alleged victims “Mia” and “Jane,” as well as rapper Kid Cudi, who claimed Combs was involved in a car fire incident.
Combs’ defense team argued that the alleged activities were consensual and part of a “swingers lifestyle.” Despite the acquittals on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, Combs still faces a slew of lawsuits accusing him of rape and sexual assault, which he denies.
