Speed Darlington bows to pressure, begs Burna Boy over defamatory remarks

Controversial Nigerian singer, Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has tendered an apology to his colleague, Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, following a recent incident that led to his detention.

Speed Darlington’s lawyer, Stan Alieke issued an official statement via Instagram to address the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Recall, Darlington was detained after Burna Boy filed a petition against him, for questioning the authenticity of Burna Boy’s Grammy award, linking the A-list artiste to embattled music mogul Sean Combs, known as P Diddy or Puff Daddy.

In the statement, Alieke explained that his controversial videos were not intended to be defamatory but were purely for entertainment.

He also noted that Darlington’s remarks were misinterpreted, as he is known to bring joy to his audience.

The lawyer also clarified that Akpi as he is fondly called never meant to insult Burna Boy’s mother, calling the remark a mere “slip of the tongue” which was taken out of context.

He further highlighted that Speed Darlington had privately reached out to Burna Boy and his team to offer further clarification on the matter in an effort to resolve lingering tension.

“Our client has privately reached out to his colleague and his team in the spirit of brotherhood and extension of an olive branch and to offer further clarification in person to him,” the statement concluded.
