Why I use same faces in my films- Omoni Oboli

Popular actress and filmmaker, Omoni Oboli has stated her reason for using same faces in her flicks. Omoni who has produced movies like ‘Okafor’s Law’, ‘Moms at War’ and others noted that she prefers working actors who won’t give her much stress as a filmmaker.

Oboli made this known as a guest speaker at the ‘Film lab’ seminar organized by British Council in Lagos on Wednesday, 12th of February 2020.

In her words: ”Relationships is key to success in Nollywood. Every filmmaker has their own favourite actors that they love to work with. I would rather work with someone who will not give me much stress and would deliver, than work with someone who would take more time in delivering their roles. This is my reason for working with some actors on a regular basis”.

Asked why she wears the cap of writer, producer and director in her movie productions, Oboli said: “Nothing wrong in being the director, script writer and producer in your movie as long as you can play those roles well”.

Omoni began her movie career with her first movie role in Bitter Encounter (1996), where she played a secretary. Her next was Shame. She then went on to play the lead female character in three major movies; Not My Will, Destined To Die and Another Campus Tale. After enjoying a brief career in 1996, Omoni left the movie industry to complete her university education. She married immediately after school and did not return to the industry until a decade later.
