Four suspects had been arrested in connection with the murder, while a manhunt was ongoing for four others.
He noted that the suspects allegedly transferred all the money from Ogunbode’s bank account before killing him and sharing the proceeds.
Hundeyin stated that the prime suspect, helped police detectives to find the victim’s burial site.
He mentioned that the deceased, a Political Science Education graduate from LASU, had been missing since Wednesday, January 16 with rumors circulating that his mutilated body had been found.
He stated that the Lagos State Police Command had earlier announced the arrest of three suspects on Friday, March 7 and the continued search for five others connected to the murder of the 2024 graduate
The police spokesperson revealed that among those arrested was Whepetoji Sunday, a pastor who withdrew N70,000 from the victim’s account, and Sheriff Adebayo, a church member accused of taking N300,000.
The mother of the prime suspect mother, Omolara Ajisomo, was also arrested.
Hundeyin mentioned that she helped her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, escape after each they withdrew N300,000 from the victim’s account.
He stated that these developments, prompted the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, to instruct the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case after the students’ union threatened to organize a statewide protest.
Hundeyin then disclosed that the suspect was captured in the morning of Monday, March 10 in the Alakuko area of the state.
The police spokesperson also stated that the suspect had emptied Ogunbode’s bank account by using the victim’s mobile phone.
He said, “The principal suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, was arrested on Monday morning at the Alakuko area.
“He was the one who cleared the victim’s bank account through the victim’s mobile phone.”
However, Hundeyin clarified that the grave was not situated within the church grounds, contrary to rumors circulating on social media.
He further stated that the church where the arrested cleric worshipped had been sealed by the police after receiving intelligence about a potential arson attack in retaliation.
Adding that, “The shallow grave is not around the church premises, but it is there in the community.
“The church was sealed following intelligence reports that some people planned to burn it out of vengeance, and we do not want that to happen.”
