First wife of Nigeria’s former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Titilayo Atiku-Abubakar turned 75 recently and the occasion was marked on Saturday.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Titilayo was born on the 6th of June 1950 in Ilesha, Osun State.
She married Atiku, from Jada, Adamawa State, in 1971 at the Ikoyi Registry in Lagos State against the wishes of their both parents.
Born into a Christian home, Titilayo, whose baptismal name is Angelina, converted from Christianity to Islam after she married Atiku, and took the name Amina.
According to the former Vice President, no family members attended their marriage ceremony, except for only two friends.
“Today, we have been married for more than 50 years,” Atiku said at the event to mark Titilayo’s 75th birthday.
He added: “On the occasion of my beloved wife, Titi’s 75th birthday anniversary celebrations, I am proud to say that I couldn’t have married a better wife”.
While encouraging spouses to imbibe patience as a virtue, Atiku, who has four wives and twenty eight children, disclosed that Titilayo has been a blessing to him and their family.
He said: “Titi and I got married against our parents’ wishes in the most daring way, with no family members, with only two friends.
“Titi has been a blessing beyond measure to me and our family. I don’t know how we started calling ourselves Mummy and Daddy.
“I thank her for being patient with my shortcomings. Patience is a virtue you can never regret.
“I encourage spouses to continue to be patient with each other. I wish Titi many more years of bliss and blessings”.
