18 Millions Lagos residents lack access to clean water – UN

Over 18 million Lagos residents do not have access to clean and affordable water, this is according to the United Nations, UN.

The global organisation warns that Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos state, is facing a water crisis which is creating unacceptable conditions for millions of people.

According to the U.N, the 21 million residents of Lagos, struggle to find clean, portable and affordable water suitable for drinking and sanitation.

UN estimates suggest that only 1 in 10 people have access to water supplied by the state utility provider, representing 10 percent.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has said that it is aware of the challenge of access to water and plans to solve it through the 2017 budget, this the State Commissioner for Information, Mr Steve Ayorinde, said would ensure access to potable water and a cleaner environment.

Mr Ayorinde, however, noted that the inflow of people from other parts of the country and the world has heaped more pressure on the water system in the State.
