Tata Group, parent company of Air India, has offered to provide ₹1 crore (approximately N180 million) to the families of each person who lost their life in the tragic plane crash on Thursday.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Air India confirmed that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident after take-off on Thursday.
The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals.
“We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171. No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured.
“Tata Group will provide ₹1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy.
“We will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and ensure that they receive all necessary care and support.
“Additionally, we will provide support in the building up of the B J Medical’s hostel,” the company stated via X.
Meanwhile, Air India has disclosed it is organizing two relief flights, one each from Delhi and Mumbai, to Ahmedabad for the next of kin of passengers involved in the fatal crash and Air India staff.
Earlier, Chairman of Air India, Natarajan Chandrasekaran had said the primary focus of the airline following the crash was on supporting all the affected people and their families.
“We are doing everything in our power to assist the emergency response teams at the site and to provide all necessary support and care to those impacted,” Chandrasekaran said.
