A group of women who refused to be addressed by Theresa Ibas, the wife of the state’s interim administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Retd.), stormed out of a women empowerment event on Thursday at the EUI Centre in Port Harcourt.
The gathering, which was part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, descended into chaos as the women began chanting and demanding that only Valerie Fubara, wife of the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, should speak to them.
In the video that surfaced on social media captured the moment the women stood up, and left the gathering, chanting “We want Sim” to express their disapproval of Theresa Ibas’ presence.
The walkout is a reaction to the political crisis that resulted in Governor Fubara’s suspension in March by President Bola Tinubu, who also declared a state of emergency in the state.
As part of the federal intervention, Tinubu appointed Ibas—a known ally of former Governor and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—as Sole Administrator. This decision has sparked outrage among Fubara’s supporters, particularly within women’s groups who view the appointment as illegitimate.
