Angry youths storm Benue streets over death of final year student killed by police officers

The death of Emmanuella Ahenjir, a 23-year-old final-year student of the Federal University by police personnel, has led to a protest in Markurdi, the Benue State capital.

TheNewsGuru earlier reports that  Emmanuella was shot dead on Friday morning, May 16, 2025, by unidentified police officers at the Wurukum roundabout while riding in a vehicle coming from the Gyado Villa area of the town.

According to reports, the tragic incident, which sparked an outrage, drew protesters, mostly youths, to the streets, led by prominent gender rights activist, Ukan Kurugh.

The demonstrators gathered at the Wurukum roundabout, wielding placards with inscriptions such as “End Police Brutality” and “Justice for Emmanuella.”

The protesters are demanding a thorough investigation and immediate action from the authorities.
