A baby who was rescued from a pit toilet in Anambra State three days after he was delivered has given up the ghost.
TheNewsGuru.com reports that baby’s mother identified as Nwaedoka Chidimma from Izzi in Ebonyi State, had gone to use the pit toilet before dumping the baby in it shortly after it was given birth to.
The ugly incident was said to have happened in Anambra East Local Government Area, where she had gone to carry out a farming job.
The child was thereafter rescued from the pit toilet on Tuesday after residents heard him crying and they alerted security agents and the state Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.
Following the development, the child was rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, where he was given medical attention.
Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the Media Assistant to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, disclosed the news of the baby’s death to journalists on Thursday.
Ikeanyionwu stated that the news of the baby’s death was received late on Wednesday after treatment commenced at the hospital.
“All efforts to resuscitate the baby including administration of oxygen and fluids with cardiopulmonary resuscitation by the hospital proved abortive,” she said.
