BEWARE! Lassa fever is back in Ogun, 1 person dead

Just when Nigerians are sighing a relief that the epidemic of Lassa fever has been dealt with in the country, the Ogun State government on Tuesday confirmed a new case of the disease in the State.

It was gathered that the disease claimed the life of a senior nursing officer at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba in Abeokuta, the state’s capital.

Confirming the development, the Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Mr Babatunde Ipaye, said that about 196 primary contacts with the victim and possible secondary contacts were being monitored with a view to keeping a tab on them.

Mr Ipaye, however, said the primary source of the new case was yet to be identified.

He assured that necessary investigations have already been launched into the case and necessary precautions are being taken to curtail the spread of the disease, whilst urging the residents not to be afraid over the development.

He also urged the people to always maintain a high level of personal hygiene to nib possible infection in the bud.
