Bingham University awards honorary doctorate degrees to Jonathan, Gowon

 

Former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Head of State General Yakubu were on Saturday conferred with honourary doctorate degrees by Bingham University.

The duo who had been in the vanguard of restoring democratic tendencies all around the world since the expiration of their tenure, were both present to receive their honours from the university.

Jonathan who was Nigeria’s President from 2010 – 2015 lost his re-election bid to the incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari at the 2015 general elections.

General Yakubu Gowon was Nigeria’s Head of State from 1966 to 1975.

In a message on his facebook page, Jonathan appreciated the university for finding him and Gowon worthy of the honour. He however promised to continue working with other leaders to ensure Nigeria and indeed the entire world becomes a safe.

I thank Bingham University for considering General Yakubu Gowon and I worthy to be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees and I affirm for anyone anywhere in the world to hear that nobody’s political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen of any nation”.

In a similar message, he wrote: “I am thankful today as Bingham University awards honorary doctorate degrees to General Yakubu Gowon and I. I believe in education as the only vehicle that will lead to a realization of Nigeria’s greatness and I am proud to be associated with the good work that Bingham University and the Evangelical Church of West Africa are doing”.
