Liverpool striker, Diogo Jota has died in a tragic road accident. It was gathered that Diogo Jota died in the road accident along with his brother, Andre.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Diogo Jota died on Thursday after getting married to his fiancee, Rute Cardoso, barely 10 days ago. The wedding was held on June 22. They already have three kids.
The 28-year-old Portuguese international was said to be travelling with Andre when their vehicle veered off the A-52 highway in the province of Zamora, Spain.
The regional fire department of Castille-Leon, where Zamora is located, said on its website that a car crashed shortly after midnight on Thursday and burst into flames, with two men, aged 28 and 26, found dead.
TNG reports Diogo Jota arrived at Anfield from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the club in all competitions. He also made 49 appearances for Portugal, twice winning the UEFA Nations League.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese Football Federation has confirmed the sad incident, saying the passing of Diogo and Andre Silva represents irreparable losses for Portuguese Football.
“We have lost two champions. The passing of Diogo and André Silva represents irreparable losses for Portuguese Football, and we will do everything to honour their legacy daily,” a statement by the football federation reads.
It also stated that all Portuguese footballers are completely devastated by the death of the two brothers and that it has requested UEFA to hold a minute of silence this Thursday.
The statement reads in full: “The Portuguese Football Federation and all of Portuguese football are completely devastated by the deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, this morning, in Spain.
“Much more than an outstanding player, with nearly 50 caps for the National A Team, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all colleagues and opponents, someone with a contagious joy and a reference in his own community.
“The Portuguese Football Federation expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Diogo and André Silva, as well as to Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the clubs where the players respectively played.
“The Portuguese Football Federation has already requested UEFA to hold a minute of silence, this Thursday, before our National Team’s match against Spain in the Women’s European Championship.
“We have lost two champions. The passing of Diogo and André Silva represents irreparable losses for Portuguese Football, and we will do everything to honor their legacy daily”.
