The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended regular operations at Agbarho train station of the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) to allow for the construction of a befitting train station.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports NRC made the disclosure on Saturday, saying the suspension of operations at the Agbaro train station will begin on Monday 14th October 2024 and last indefinitely.
“The Nigerian Railway Corporation has approved the indefinite suspension of operations at Agbaro station starting Monday, 14th October 2024,” a notice by the railway corporation to passengers and the general public reads.
It was gathered that the suspension is to allow for the construction of a befitting train station at Agbarho. This means that passengers plying the WITS rail line route will not be allowed to drop off at the train station while the suspension lasts.
Recall that NRC commenced the transportation of passengers on the WITS rail line, a 326km railway facility, in October 2020 after then President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the rail line on September 29, 2020.
The WITS rail line runs from Itakpe in Okehi local government area of Kogi State to Ujevwu in Udu local government area of Delta State. Passengers usually travel from Abuja, the federal capital territory (FCT) for 3 to 4 hours by road to connect with the train service.
TNG reports there are twelve (12) train stations on the WITS route. The train stations are located in Ujevwu, Agbarho, Okpara, Abraka, Agbor, Igbanke, Ekehen, Uromi, Agenebode, Itogbo, Ajaokuta and Itakpe. Of all, only Agbarho has no befitting train station.
“The Nigerian Railway Corporation has approved the indefinite suspension of operations at Agbaro station starting Monday, 14th October 2024, to allow for the construction of a new, more efficient station. We regret any inconvenience this may cause. Passengers are advised to use the Ujevwu or Okpara stations in the interim,” the notice by NRC reads in full.
