BREAKING: Tinubu directs VP to retrieve Buhari’s body from London

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to immediately proceed to the United Kingdom (UK) to retrieve the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports former President Buhari, who has been hospitalised in the UK, died in an undisclosed clinic in London, UK, on Sunday at about 4.30 pm, following a prolonged illness.

Tinubu, in a statement announcing the death of his predecessor, disclosed he has spoken with Mrs Aisha Buhari, the former President’s widow, and offered his deep condolences.

“President Tinubu has also directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to proceed to the United Kingdom to accompany President Muhammadu Buhari’s body back to Nigeria,” the statement reads.

TNG reports Buhari was twice elected Nigeria’s President in 2015 and 2023. He also served as military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985.

“President Tinubu has ordered flags at half-staff as a mark of respect for the departed leader,” the statement added.
