The Nigerian Senate’s President, and Chairman of the National Assembly, Bukola Saraki has confirmed that the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is in good health while stressing that there is no cause for alarm.
Saraki made this statement in London when he led a 3-man delegation of the National Assembly to visit the Nigerian President who is on vacation in the United Kingdom (UK), and also receiving medical attention there.
“Myself, Rt Honorable Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and leader of Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan paid a visit to President Buhari in Abuja House in London.
“We were delighted to see that President Buhari is doing well, was cheerful and in good spirits,” said Saraki.
President Buhari embarked on a 10-day vacation to the UK on Monday January 23, 2017, and billed to return to work on Monday February 6th, but wrote the National Assembly on February 5th informing of his desire to extend his leave indefinitely in order to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors. This has left so many questions unanswered.
Barely 12 hours after sources at the National Assembly confirmed that the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representative will lead a team of legislators to visit President Buhari in London, the President published on his Facebook page that he has received the delegation while also publishing photos they took together.
Upon receiving the delegation, Buhari said that he is pleased by the visit of the legislators.
“Pleased to receive Senate President Bukola Saraki, Speaker Yakubu Dogara and Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan tonight.
“I spoke with the SP and Speaker on the phone last week; and I’m delighted to be hosting them and discussing in person,” Buhari said.
This will probably cast doubt and calm the agitation from Nigerians who are to know the true status of their President.
“The president I saw today is healthy, witty and himself,” Saraki assured.
The Senate President further stated that President Buhari’s absence has not left any vacuum in the government and that the democratic system is working with all organs of government and fulfilling their mandate.
“And let me use the time tested cliché, there is no cause for alarm!” Saraki concluded.
