Burna Boy speaks on keeping ‘Juju’ on his unshaved armpits

Nigerian Grammy-winning singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has reacted to a popular claim among fans that he does not shave his armpits because his success and strength come from there through spiritual powers.

The Afro-fusion star addressed the matter during a recent interview with Apple Music, where he was asked about common misconceptions people have about him.

Burna Boy explained that one of the strangest things he has heard is the belief that his unshaved armpits are the source of his power, similar to the biblical story of Samson who lost his strength after his hair was cut.

He said, “One is that I don’t like to shave my armpits. People think that it is like Samson in the Bible that his power is in his hair. There are some people that claim my armpit is where my power is because I don’t shave. In Nigeria, you hear crazy things. Some people even say it is voodoo, that my power is in my armpits. I don’t even know how to explain it. I even tried to find out if that is possible.”

The singer laughed off the claims, describing them as ridiculous, but acknowledged that such rumours often spread quickly in Nigeria.

It would that Burna Boy’s photos showing his unshaved armpits have, in the past, sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many fans questioning why the singer keeps them that way.

Burna Boy, however, clarified that there is no special meaning behind it, stressing that the idea of attaching his success to his armpit hair is nothing more than an unfounded myth.
