CAF announces huge reward for Women’s Champions League clubs

Each of the eight African Women Football Clubs participating in the CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco 2024 will receive at least 150,000 dollars in prize money.

In a statement by CAF on Thursday, this year’s prize money has increased by 52 per cent with the winner receiving 600,000 dollars.

“CAF is committed to developing and growing Women’s Football in Africa. The objective of President Patrice Motsepe is to invest in Youth Academies for boys and girls and to continue increasing the prize monies of all CAF competitions to make them globally competitive and attractive,” the statement noted.

This means Nigeria’s sole representative in the league, Edo Queens, will earn over N200m for making it to the tournament.

Edo Queens earned their place in the Champions league on their first attempt after winning the WAFU B qualifiers earlier this year.

The Nigerian club side will face CBE FC of Ethiopia, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and Masar FC of Egypt in Group B.

In Group A, Aigles de la Médina from Senegal will face the trio of AS FAR of Morocco, TP Mazembe of Congo and UWC FC of South Africa.
