A man claiming to be a Canadian returnee on Friday assaulted an officer of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) also known as KAI, while resisting arrest at Ojota, Lagos.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Morufudeen Idowu, 52, allegedly crossed the expressway unlawfully and attacked the KAI official who confronted him.
The Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Kunle Adeshina in a statement disclosed that the officer sustained bodily injuries during the confrontation.
Adeshina confirmed that Idowu has been taken into custody at the KAI headquarters in Oshodi and will face prosecution in accordance with state laws.
“He inflicted bodily injuries on the KAI officer.
“He has been taken into custody at Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps office in Oshodi, and will be prosecuted in accordance with the relevant Laws of the State,” Adeshina stated on X.
Despite the Lagos State Government spending millions of naira to build pedestrian bridges in strategic locations across the state, aimed at reducing human and vehicular interaction on highways, most Lagosians risk their lives daily crossing highways instead of making use of these bridges.
Although crossing highways is illegal in the state, people have continued to flout the law, which has led to renewed commitment by the government to punish offenders
