One motorcyclist has lost his life in the early hours of Sunday when he crashed into a flour-laden truck in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that the fatal incident occurred when the motorcyclist, reportedly riding at high speed, lost control of his bike due to sudden brake failure, reportedly ramming into the rear of the moving truck, leading to the rider’s immediate death.
Adebayo Taofiq, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirmed the incident disclosing that the agency’s officials, who arrived at the scene as the first emergency responders, worked swiftly to manage traffic and secure the area.
According to him, during the operation, LASMA officers discovered that the driver of the truck had abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene.
Adebayo stated that LASTMA’s officers promptly pursued and apprehended the fleeing driver.
He was handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at the Shagamu Road Division in Ikorodu for further investigation and possible prosecution under applicable traffic and criminal laws.
The mangled body of the deceased was found trapped beneath the truck.
LASTMA officers, with the assistance of others at the scene, extricated the remains and handed them over to his family members, who arrived after being alerted by other commercial motorcyclists.
“The mangled remains of the deceased motorcyclist were tragically found trapped beneath the truck. With clinical precision and due sensitivity, LASTMA officials extricated and evacuated the corpse.
“The body was thereafter handed over to members of his family who rushed to the accident scene after receiving phone calls from his other motorcyclists,” Adebayo said in a statement.
