Nigerians on social media have expressed confusion over a recent photo of grown men released in place of the viral ‘court minors’ who were arraigned for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protests in August.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that over 76 people, many of them minors, were arraigned by the Inspector General of Police before an Abuja court on charges related to their alleged participation in protests in August on Friday, November 1st
The minor’s arraignment sparked an outcry in the country, with top politicians, civil rights groups and activists slamming the government.
Following the outrage, President Bola Tinubu ordered their immediate release, tasking the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to facilitate the safe return of the minors to their families.
According to a statement from the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris,” committee has been set up to look at the issues surrounding their arrest, detention and release. All the law enforcement agents related to the case will be investigated and anyone found wanting will be brought to book”.
However, what became striking to many Nigerians in the recent photos of the minors shared, is how grown the ‘supposed’ minors were looking during a recent visit to the Kaduna State Government.
While some argued that the ‘minors’ who were gifted N100k, and itel smartphones each, were quite different from the the ones recently arrainged, others noted that the boys were the same as those seen in the viral court video.
