Delta State Govt set to cut workers’ salaries by 35%

Indications reveal that the government of Delta state, led by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is set to cut workers’ salaries in the State by 35%.

The State Government summoned heads of tertiary institutions for a meeting recently in Asaba, the capital of the State. The meeting was chaired by the State finance commissioner, David Edevbie.

While speaking with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Victor Peretomode of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, and other representatives of institutions in the State present at the meeting, Edevbie said that the State government has already concluded plans to reduce the salary of workers by 35%.

Information at our disposal further reveals that the State government will begin the reduction of workers’ salaries with DELSU and Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro.

Efforts to contact the VC of DELSU and the Finance Commissioner for comments proved abortive as at press time.
