The Anambra State Government has dismissed eight operatives of the Agunechemba Security Network for assaulting and stripping a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Jennifer Elobor.

The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Awka on Wednesday.

Emeakayi said the decision followed the unprofessional conduct of the operatives on July 23, where Elobor was stripped naked and assaulted.

The state government described the conduct as “totally outside the mandate of the agency and utterly condemnable.”

He said, “The Soludo administration will not tolerate any form of unprofessionalism, brutality or abuse of office by security operatives. Any officer found guilty of misconduct will face immediate dismissal and prosecution.”

He disclosed that despite pleas from the victim’s family and NYSC officials not to prolong prosecution over fear of damaging the identity of the people involved, the Anambra State Government insisted on full investigation and accountability to serve as a deterrence.

Emeakayi further revealed that the agency has already settled all medical bills of the corps member, replaced damaged valuables such as laptops and phones, and tendered a public apology to the victim, her family, NYSC, and the general public.

Emeakayi reiterated the government’s resolve to reform community security operations in the state, emphasising the government’s commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in all security engagements.

He assured that the incident would serve as a wake-up call to reinforce discipline and rebuild public confidence in the Agunechemba outfit.
