Enugu State Government has reacted to the viral video of students bullying another student at Federal Government College, Enugu.
TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that the footage showing the moment a group of male students is seen aggressively flogging another student with their belts in their school hostel surfaced on the microblogging platform X on Monday.
The video attracted widespread condemnation, with many calling on the authorities to intervene.
Reacting, the state Commissioner for Education, Professor Ndubueze Mbah, in a statement on Tuesday, ordered the arrest and prosecution of the boys, describing the video as deeply troubling and emotionally distressing.
Stressing the state government’s intolerance for bullying and dehumanizing treatments, Mbah noted that the state government is currently in communication with the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure that appropriate sanctions are applied to both the errant students and any school managers who failed in their duties.
The commissioner further assured parents, students, and members of the public that the state government would always prioritize the safety and welfare of students, citing Governor Peter Mbah’s Administration record in the education sector.
The statement reads in part, “The Enugu State Government has zero tolerance for bullying and abuse in our schools. The safety and welfare of our students are paramount. Government is resolved to prosecute culprits who engage in the criminal behavior of physical assault against students. Such immoral behavior has no place in our academic environments and those who tread that part must be ready to face the consequences.”
