Ex-convict brandishing gun, threatening people In Lagos arrested

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an ex-convict, Onamade Kayode, for allegedly brandishing a locally made gun and threatening residents at the Sabon Kasuwa area of Abule Eko.

The suspect, who was arrested on Monday, by operatives of the Ijede Division, was traced to an uncompleted building where he was apprehended.

Investigations revealed that Kayode, who was released from prison in 2022 for cultism-related offences, is still an active member of a cult group.

He admitted to possessing the firearm and led police operatives to a toilet pipe in the building where the weapon was concealed.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspect is cooperating with investigations aimed at apprehending other cult members and recovering more weapons.

Investigations revealed that the suspect, who was released from prison in 2022 for cultism related offences, is still an active member of a cult group.

“He admitted to having a firearm and led the operatives to a toilet pipe within the uncompleted building from where the firearm was recovered.

“The suspect is currently cooperating with ongoing investigations to apprehend other cult members and recover weapons in their possession, after which he will be prosecuted accordingly,” Hundeyin said.
