The family of ex- Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has formally confirmed his death at the age of 69 following an undisclosed illness.
In a statement released on Sunday, his son, Solomon Arase Jnr., revealed that the late police chief passed away on August 31, 2025, at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja.
“The Arase family of Benin-City, Edo State, hereby announces the passage of Solomon Ehigiator Arase, Former Inspector General of Police,” the statement read.
It further stated, “He passed on at about 9 a.m. on Sunday 31st August 2025, at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness.”
According to the family, the late IGP was “aged 69” and remembered as a man who served Nigeria “with distinction.”
The statement also highlighted his service as Chairman of the Police Service Commission and his membership in the Body of Benchers.
Appealing for public support, the family said, “We seek the understanding and prayers of friends, associates and well-wishers at this difficult moment, as we make necessary arrangements for his obsequies, which will be announced in due course.
