Family of late ex-president Buhari gives reason for renovating graveyard

Muhammadu Buhari

Hamisu Haro, a family member of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari has opened up on the reason for the renovating recently noticed on the graveyard where the former Nigerian leader was buried in Daura.

This comes after photos of Katsina State governor, Dikko Radda, offering prayers at the burial site within Buhari’s residence surfaced on social media.

Speaking on the development, Haro, who oversees the late former president’s household, disclosed that the fencing around the graveyard was carried out for security reasons.

Speaking he said, “Considering the time we are in, we felt that there is a need to fence the graveyard, keep it secure, so that whosoever comes to visit would stay out there and offer their prayers, just like what people saw during Governor Radda’s visit recently.”

He also added that some individuals laid flowers at the grave, a practice he said contradicts Islamic teachings.

The flowers were later removed.

Haro also noted that a concrete floor and pavement were added to help prevent erosion caused by rainwater, as he stressed that the grave itself was not altered.

Recall, Muhammadu Buhari died in July and was buried in accordance with Islamic rites at his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.
