Fleeing Enugu herbalist wanted for kidnap, rituals, buried pregnant women nabbed at Seme border

Operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS)  on Wednesday arrested a wanted native doctor, Obi Levi Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme border in Lagos State.

Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlab, on Thursday.

Obieze, a native of Umuojor village in Isiagu Community, Enugu State, and a known native doctor, had been declared wanted by the Enugu State Police Command for his alleged role in the abduction of a 13-year-old girl and ritual killings, including the burial of pregnant women in soakaway pits.

The suspect who was attempting to evade capture when he was intercepted by operatives of the Lagos State Border Patrol Command at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme road, following credible intelligence.

Part of the statement reads:

“According to reports, Obi Levi Obieze, a resident of Umuojor village in Isiagu Community, Enugu State, and a known native doctor, is alleged to have been involved in the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl on 27th May, 2025.

“The victim was reportedly abducted by a group of three men while walking with her father to farm. She was subsequently rescued by the police from a shrine purportedly linked to the suspect, according to a news article published on 28th May, 2025, by a national newspaper.”

The suspect was arrested following credible intelligence received by officers of the NIS Lagos State Border Patrol Command.

Through credible intelligence, Obi Levi Obieze was apprehended by vigilant men of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Border Patrol Command, at Gbaji checkpoint along Badagry-Seme Road while attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle,” the statement continued.

“He is currently in custody, and his identity has been confirmed through a National Identity Management Commission enrolment slip found in his possession. During initial questioning, he admitted to the alleged crimes.”

The Immigration Service has pledged continued cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a thorough investigation and proper handover of the suspect.

“The Service remains committed to securing Nigeria’s borders and preventing fugitives from escaping justice,” the statement added.
