The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has warned motorists against violating established traffic regulations, saying there will be no hiding place for those who break traffic laws.
Mohammed issued the warning on Friday in Abuja following judgment delivered at a Mobile Court sitting in Nyanya, within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement by the FRSC spokesman, Olusegun Ogungbemide on Saturday in Abuja, Mohammed said that four traffic offenders were convicted and sentenced to community service for flouting road safety rules.
He said the convictions were made under Section 460(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and the FRSC Establishment Act 2007.
The court, presided over by Maryam Alhaji, the convicted John Emenu, a second-time offender, was sentenced to seven days of community service at the FRSC National Headquarters for dangerous driving and driver’s licence violation.
“Ekpo Chukwunonso received a seven-day community service sentence at the FCT Sector Command after being found guilty of attempting to bribe a Marshal on duty.
“John Doe was sentenced to 14 days of community service at the FRSC Headquarters for committing multiple offences including dangerous driving, road obstruction, and route violation.
“Ajayi Adewoye, also a second-time offender, was handed seven days of community service at the Nigeria Correctional Service Headquarters for overloading and seatbelt violation,” he said.
The FRSC boss said that the offenders were arrested during a Mobile Court special operation aimed at enhancing compliance with traffic laws and improving road safety across the country.
Reacting to the court’s verdict, the corps marshal described the judgment as a “strong deterrent” to traffic violators and a testament to the effective collaboration between the FRSC and the judiciary.
Mohammed reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to clamping down on indiscipline, lawlessness, and assaults on personnel.
He also noted that special patrols and surveillance operations would be intensified nationwide saying that the FRSC would not tolerate reckless behaviour that endangers lives on our roads.
