Gov. Bello urges NYSC members to sustain core national values

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello on Thursday urged members of the NYSC to sustain the core national values at all times.

The governor made the call at the swearing in ceremony for 2220 corps members deployed to the state for 2016 Batch ‘B’ Stream 11, at the Kogi State Orientation Camp, Asaya, Kabba.

“The national core values, honesty and dedication should be invigorated in this camp with the spirit of positive change; as a matter of fact, change must begin with all,” Bello said.

Bello, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Arome Adoji, implored the corps members to imbibe the spirit of enthusiasm and unison for nation building.

“The managers of the scheme have institutionalised dynamism in its activities, which had affected the lives of communities, and improved the managerial skills of corps members,” he said.

Bello called on the camp officials and the corps members to abide by the rules and regulations of the camp, to ensure a very successful camping exercise.

In her speech, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Ngozi Nwatarali, said the NYSC Orientation Course was the launching pad for the one year national service to prepare corps members to play their expected roles in service.

“It will equip the corps members with practical, social and leadership skills, inculcate discipline and good ethics required for primary assignment during the service year.

“It will also create a forum for corps members to have a better understanding of the environment, culture and the people of the State they will work with,” she said.

The 1,215 males and 1,005 females took their Oath of Allegiance at the official swearing-in ceremony administered by the State Chief Judge, Justice Nasiru Ajanah, in line with the provisions of the NYSC Act.

The Oath of Allegiance was administered by Justice Arome Akogu, on behalf of the State’s Chief Judge.
