Tragedy struck in Pulka town, located in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, on Thursday afternoon when a grenade explosion claimed the lives of three children.
TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that the victims who were identified as Fati Dahiru, Aisha Ibrahim, and Fati Yakubu were playing with a grenade believed to have been abandoned by Boko Haram insurgents when it exploded around 2:20 p.m.
A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Buba Yaga, confirmed the incident noting that combined team from the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD-CBRN), troops of Operation Hadin Kai, CJTF members, and local hunters responded to the scene.
They cordoned off the area and conducted a sweep for other explosives, but none were found, and the area was declared safe.
Sadly, the injured children were rushed to the General Hospital in Gwoza, where doctors confirmed their deaths. The bodies of the children have been released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
