Political group under the aegis of Back to South Alliance has called for the immediate suspension of Senator John Owan-Enoh from the All Progressives Congress (APC) for dragging the party and its gubernatorial candidate, Senator Bassey Otu to court.
The group also asked the Presidential Candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the immediate removal of Enoh from the presidential campaign council.
This was disclosed at a press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Cross River State chapter, Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre in Calabar.
Mr. Awatt Ekpenyong who spoke on behalf of the group said since 1999, Senator Enoh has been one of the highest beneficiaries of zoning in the state as a Senator representing the Sentral senatorial district of the state.
He wondered why Enoh is repudiating the same zoning he had so much enjoyed as a Senator.
Ekpenyong said,”There is an axiom that, to whom much is given, much is expected. Senator Owan Enoh since 1999 has been given the honour to represent the people of Etung in the Cross River State Assembly, the Obubra Etung Federal
Constituency and Central Senatorial District.
“Therefore much is expected of him in terms of contribution, sacrifice and
commitment to the growth of the party and State at all times.
“Senator John Enoh having been given the opportunity to contest the Gubernatorial primaries and lost, in spite of the fact that the position is zoned to the southern part of the State, should have arouse in his conscience to the reality that the APC has a large heart.
“We demand that Senator Enoh be immediately suspended from the ALL
PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS by the Executive of his Ward.
Ekpenyong added, “That our dear Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed
Tinubu, the Jagaban of the masses should know and have on record the
destabilizing actions of Senator John Enoh, and give him the appropriate
sanctions his action deserves by removing him from the presidential campaign council immediately.”
“He is one of the greatest beneficiaries of zoning, who was allowed to contest
even when the leadership of the party had taken a decision which one the
governorship should go in 2023.
“Senator Enoh should note that Senator Bassey Otu contested primaries of the All Progressives Congress and had a resounding victory.”
Ekpenyong noted that it is clear that Senator Enoh was out to destroy the success of the party, as he urged the leadership to wield the big stick.
