A group of unknown gunmen on Tuesday abducted two students from the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Markurdi (JoSTUM), Benue State.
The state’s police spokesperson, Superintendent (SP), Sewuese Anene, confirmed the incident, noting that Sthe Command had only received a report regarding the abduction of two students and investigations are currently ongoing.
Anene said, “We received the information yesterday evening that two students were kidnapped.
“We have commenced an investigation, and further details will be provided soon.”
However, a male student of the university, who chose to be anonymous, revealed that four students were actually taken by the gunmen.
He stated that the incident had caused widespread panic among the student body.
The student said, “Some gunmen kidnapped four students outside campus yesterday evening. We have yet to hear from them.
“Everyone is in a panic mood because of the incident.”
Anene then urged the students to remain calm and promised to apprehend the culprits very soon.
