Police in Ondo State have recovered three headless, decomposing bodies from a river along the Odigbo-Ore Road.
According to local sources, the grim discovery was made on Sunday. An eyewitness, identified as Shileola, said he rushed to the scene after receiving a call, hoping to recognize the victims through their clothing or other features—but was unsuccessful.
“No one has been reported missing in the surrounding communities,” he said, adding that the victims were likely murdered and dumped in the river.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Alayande Olayinka, stated that the bodies have been taken to the mortuary. He explained that once the report reached the Ore Division, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately dispatched detectives to the scene.
“The DPO ordered the recovery of the bodies and their transfer to the morgue. He also called on community leaders and interest groups to assist in identifying the victims. So far, no one has come forward with any information,” Olayinka said.
He further noted that investigators believe the victims were killed elsewhere and their bodies dumped in the river, possibly by unknown assailants.
“The location borders other states like Ogun and Edo. There’s a strong possibility the bodies were not from Ondo but were brought in and abandoned at that spot. The river may have even carried them downstream,” he added.
Police are continuing their investigation and have urged anyone with relevant information to contact local authorities.
