Igboho only released for treatment, remains in Benin- Lawyer

Contrary to the viral news yesterday that embattled Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, has been released, his counsel, Yomi Aliyyu, has informed that “Igboho has not been released.”

In his words: “Igboho has not been released; he was only released to be taken to the hospital to attend to his ill health.”

According to him, Igboho was released based on health grounds.

“I am to inform you that Chief Sunday Adeyemo has been released from prison to his medical practitioners under the agreement that he should not leave the medical center or Cotonou for any reason.

“Praises should be given to two prominent Yoruba personalities to wit Professor Wole Soyinka and Professor Akintoye for this turnaround in our client’s matter.”

Igboho was released to Yoruba Nation arrowhead and leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Banji Akintoye.

Receiving Igboho also was the Akintoye’s deputy, Wale Adeniran.

In a statement by the group’s Communications Secretary, Maxwell Adeleye, Akintoye described the release of Ighoho as a triumph of truth over darkness in Yorubaland.

The Department of State Services had raided Igboho’s Ibadan residence on July 1, 2021, killed two of his aides and arrested 12 of his aides who were later released after months in detention at the secret police’s headquarters in Abuja.

Declared wanted by the DSS for allegedly stockpiling arms to destabilize Nigeria, an allegation he denied, Igboho escaped to the neighboring francophone country in July 2021.
