The House on The Rock Church on Wednesday stated that the Nigerian police’ description of the weapon seen with its the senior pastor, Paul Adefarasin, is incorrect
TheNewsGuru reports that the church’s response followed the police’s claim that they recovered an illegal stun gun from Adefarasin after a viral video showed him brandishing the device to warn a content creator to stop recording his vehicle.
Adefarasin has consistently denied owning a firearm after pointing the stun gun at the car spotter, whom he described as an “aggressive content creator.”
The church also revealed that Adefarasin was detained by the police for several hours without charge on Tuesday.
The House on The Rock Church criticized the law enforcement agency for incorrectly labeling Adefarasin’s stun gun as illegal and urged police officers to act with courtesy and professionalism.
The church emphasized that its senior pastor will continue to cooperate with the police and expressed confidence that he will be exonerated of the allegations.
The statement read, “Pastor Paul was detained for several hours and released without charge. During that time, an official police tweet mis-labelled his strobe-light stinger—also known as a stun gun—as “prohibited anti-riot equipment.” Leading Nigerian lawyers advise that this description is incorrect in law.
“Pastor Paul continues to cooperate fully with the police investigation and is confident that, once the facts are reviewed, he will be exonerated of the allegation arising from the viral video.”
